6.Расширение знаний о США 15 мин.
7.Закрепление знаний 5 мин.
8. Работа по карте 5 мин.
9.Подведение итогов урока. Объяснение домашнего задания. Заключение 3 мин.

Ход урока

Этапы урока:
I.Организационный момент: проверка присутствующих, объявление темы, задачи, психологический настрой, речевая зарядка.
II.Актуализация знаний:
1. Brush up you phonetics

Look at the board. You can see a map here. What country is it? The United States of America.
Right. The theme of our lesson is “The United States of America”. The plan of our work is on the computer. Today we are going to speak about different features of this country.

3. «Мозговой штурм» Групповая работа.
Цель игры – выяснить, сколько учащиеся уже знают о США.
Класс делится на 2 группы каждой группе выдаётся лист бумаги , на котором заранее написаны заголовки Cities, States, Natural features, Famous people, Industries Учащимся необходимо вспомнить и записать совместными усилиями известную им информацию о США под заголовками.

4.Введение лексики по теме «The USA». Отработка лексики в речи учащихся.

the Pacific Ocean – Тихий океан - самый большой океан разделяющий Америку от Азии и Австралии.
the Atlantic Ocean – Атлантический океан - океан отделяющий Америку от Европы и Африки.
the Appalachian Mountains – горная система на востоке США.
the Cordillera – горная цепь
the Mississippi - самая большая река в США
the Saint Lawrence River – река Св. Лаврентия.
the Great Salt Lake – Великое Соленое озеро.
the Gulf of Mexico – морской залив.
Colorado –река в северной части США- 2.740 км. длинной.
Columbia – самая большая река на западе США.

The United States of America.
The USA is situated in the central part of the North America continent. Its western coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean and its eastern coast by the Atlantic Ocean.
The area of the USA is over 9 million square kilometers. The continental part of the USA consists of two highland regions and two lowland regions. The highland regions are the Appalachian Mountains in the east, and the Cordillera in the west. The highest peak of the Cordillera in the USA is 4, 418 meters.
Between the Cordillera and the Appalachian Mountains are the central lowlands, which are called the prairie, and the eastern lowlands called the Mississippi valley.
The five Great Lakes between the USA and Canada are joined together by short rivers or canals and the Saint Lawrence River joins them to the Atlantic Ocean. In the west of the USA there is another lake called the Great Salt Lake.
The main rivers of the USA are the Mississippi , which flows into the into the Gulf of Mexico, Colorado and Columbia, which flow into the Pacific Ocean, the Saint Lawrence River and the Hudson River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
The USA is a very large country, so it has several different climatic regions. The coldest region are in the north and north – east where much snow falls in winter. The south has subtropical climate. Hot winds blowing from the Gulf of Mexico often brings typhoons. The climate along the Pacific coast is much warmer than that of the Atlantic coast. The region around the Great Lakes is known for its changeable weather.
The capital of the USA is Washington D.C. It is an administrative city without much industry. The American capital has many famous monuments on its streets and squares. One of them is the Abraham Lincoln memorial.
New York is the largest city and port in the United States. It is the financial centre of the capitalist world.
There are a lot of other large cities in the USA.
Boston is one of the first towns which were build on the Atlantic coast of America. It is an important port and a financial and cultural centre .It has 3 universities.
Chicago is one of the biggest industrial cities in the USA.
Detroit in the Great Lakes region, is the port and one of the biggest centres of the automobile industry.
The USA is highly developed industrial country and its agriculture is highly mechanized. Coal is founded in many parts of the country: in the Cordillera Mountains, in the state of Kansas, in the east near Birmingham and Pittsburgh.
The USA has rich oilfields in California, Texas, Alaska. California, a US state on the Pacific Ocean, is also called the Golden State. It became part of the United States in 1845. Its history has included the Gold Rush of 1849 and the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.
When gold was discovered, California’s population grew rapidly. Wheat soon became the chief crop. Rice and barley became important too. Today four-fifths of California’s crop lands are still used for grazing and for grains. Among the other important crops are cotton, vegetables, fruit, and dairy products. California is now the country’s second most important cotton-producing state. Only Texas grows more cotton. And California’s farmers grow half of the country’s fruit and vegetables.
California has the largest population of all the states and its largest city is Los Angeles. It is known for Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Disneyland, the Silicon Valley and for its agricultural and wine products.
In 1909 the first film studio opened in Los Angeles. Today, the Los Angeles suburb, Hollywood has become film and television centre. The world’s major film companies have studios there and many famous film stars live in its fashionable and expensive Beverly Hills district.
Disneyland is the original amusement park opened by Walt Disney in 1955.
The name of the Silicon Valley is given to an area in the Santa Clara Valley of California where there are many computer and electronic companies. It is near the cities of San Francisco and San Jose. Silicon is an important chemical element used in computers and electronic equipment.
Another large city of California is San Francisco, which is a financial and communications centre for trade with Asia.
It’s interesting to know that Ronald Reagan, a US film actor, was a governor of California in 1966-74 and later he became the 40th US President. Now another famous film star, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the Governor of California.
The heavy industries are for the most part in the Middle West, in the region of the Great Lakes, around the Detroit and Chicago, in the north – eastern states and near Birmingham. The automobile industry and all kinds of machine-building are highly developed near Detroit, in California. American agriculture produces more food products than any other capitalist country. Fresh fruit and vegetables come all the year round from Florida and Colifornia.

V. Подведение итогов занятия.
Учащиеся кратко подводят итог того, что они нового узнали на уроке, и какую информацию можно добавить в листы, которые они заполняли в начале урока. Учитель оценивает работу каждого ученика, комментировано выставляя отметки- благодарит учащихся за работу и прощается с ними.
